Rookie goes for 5 in a row @ IMUK Week 15/26
So last week I achieved the holy grail and that is to ride a sub 2 Ironman UK bike loop….
To put this into context, so far on Strava, over 50 riders have recorded their efforts on the IMUK bike circuit with a Horrobin lane start….(tother side of sheephouse inbetween the two reservoirs)
Quickest did it in 1:30 (I know of the lad who did that and make no mistake you are deep into Kona territory here)
Slowest did it in 3 hours (Sorry, but this is a certain DNF)
Average was 2:15 (ish)
Sub 2 gets you a top 10 ranking…..
Top ten eh?
Pretty impressive when you are ‘shit’….
But the phrase that is going to become synonymous with IMUK Bolton is this…..
“Come and have a chat with me on lap 3 cock”…..
You see it’s one thing racing round a single lap of the circuit on fresh legs…..
Repeating that pace for laps 2 & 3 after a prior 2.4 mile swim, 14 mile bone clattering ‘pre loop’ and hardly any kip the night before is another matter entirely…..
It’s easy to forget that Ironman is a very long day…..
Very long indeed…..
Be sure to remember that as you go stomping round a single lap feeling all ‘Joe Skipper’ with yourself….
Here is how training went this week….
Mon….26 mile bike to and from work
Tues…. 26 mile bike to and from work
Weds…. 26 mile bike to and from work
Thurs….. 26 mile bike to and from work
Fri….. 26 mile bike to and from work
Sun…Single IMUK Bike loop
