IMUK #3 Wk 16/40

Rookie Goes for 3 in a row at Ironman UK Week 16 of 40

Areet….

So on the back of Ironkids, which is a brilliant event organised by Ironman UK on race weekend, the big news this week is that there is going to be a further event, a 5k ‘night run’ – to be held as part of the Ironman UK race spectacular and designed to promote the many benefits of health and fitness to the wider local community whilst at the same time touching all who enter it with the magic of the Ironman brush.

How fantastic is it that Ironman UK take the trouble to do such things?

But I got to thinking….

If you interviewed the finishers of this 5k run immediately after they crossed the finish line and asked them the following question…

“Do you think you will ever enter the main event itself?”

What do you suppose they would say?

I reckon you would get one of only three possible answers….

  1. No Chance! – that would never be possible for me!
  2. Maybe – one day
  3. Yes, I am racing the real deal on Sunday (you know who you are)

Dear Ironman UK…….

As the vast majority of entrants to this new 5k event are likely to fall into catagories 1 & 2 above….

Give them a free copy of my fookin book in their ‘goody bag’ after the race!!!! (read the reviews!)…

Here is how may training went this week….

Last Saturday…. 47 mile IMUK loop Croston start…3:12 in gale force winds…Riding the loop in the wrong order is something I haven’t done in a very long time and hitting parts of the circuit full of beans when you are normally goosed was a surreal experience and one that I quite enjoyed….I stomped round the first 90 minutes like joe skipper…’lovin this’ I thought to myself…However, once I got the other side of sheephouse and headed over to wheelton past Bolton sailing club, you enter a micro climate that on days like this resembles something from the X files…The sky turns black, the temperature drops 10 degrees, you get pelted with raindrops the size of golf balls and the headwind ramps up to gale force for at least the next hour as you make your way through the baron landscape….battle down the hatches rookie and try to hit your checkpoints as if you are starting fresh from babylon….Over sheephouse in 30 minutes, Houghton arms within the hour, david Lloyd by quarter past, brindle by half past, croston in 40 minutes…Delighted to report that despite the ‘extra hour’ of riding by starting in croston versus starting at Babylon, I managed to hit all of the above, except the last one which was 42 minutes…3:12 in gale force winds is a result…More importantly, my strength is back….Gaz…i’m ready www.strava.com/activities/2073984264

Sunday…. Sunday 10k ish…56:57…The first half of this entailed running into a gale force headwind and that is frankly not my idea of a good time…To return sub hour today is to return victorious www.strava.com/activities/2075899201

Monday… Pool mile…37 Mins…Felt full of beans so went at it like Michael Phepls for the first 20 lengths….Nooooo Rookie

Tuesday….Weights set in the gym 💪….I swear One of the male PT’s was wearing black female leggings complete with full on ‘shine’….Seriously, WTF is all that about?…

Wednesday….10 mile TT 32:32…It was freezing, it was pissing down and my time was poor…But I bloody loved it…

Thursday….Pool Mile…Finished strong…

Friday….Weights sesh….I am noticing that more and more people are now sporting their IMUK finisher top when working out at my gym….Once upon a time it was just me….It’s a ‘Rookie Revolution”

Making good progress on the weight loss front – sub 14 the first target

Give us a ‘go-on Rookie’ if you see us out on the IMUK loop this afternoon…
