‘New’ IMUK Bike loop…Attempt #3

Rookies 3rd attempt at the new IMUK bike loop

Areet cock?

My 3rd attempt at the new IMUK bike loop yesterday was probably the most horrendous experience I have ever had on a road bike to date…

This is meant to be ‘fun’ FFS……

Google said the weather was going to be ‘alright’ Early doors….

Lying bastard google….

The thing is, everything seems relatively tranquil down in the village, but once you get out onto the tops, which are unbelievably exposed on a day like this, all hell is breaking loose….

The scene was set straight from the off when my drinks bottle split after only 15 minutes.

After 30 minutes I’m already piss wet through and absolutely freezing…..

Black skies…. constant gale force winds….driving rain….hailstones….. you can forgive me for almost turning back less than an hour in.

On Turton Road I genuinely thought that the wind was going to pick me up and throw me into a hedge on more than one occasion.

Attempting to cycle up Grane Road Haslingden in such conditions was absolutely hilarious and only those that have ever attempted such a retarded thing would ever understand what this is like.

I was grateful to make it over the other side still in one piece to be perfectly honest with you.

Onto York road and I gets not one but 2 punctures within 10 minutes of eachother.

Trying to sort a puncture with a pump the size of a twix in the middle of no-where in freezing gale force winds when your hands feel like they are encased in a couple of ice blocks whilst getting a soaking for good measure you seriously begin to question what the hell you are doing with your life.

Thanks to the assistance of some kind locals, I was finally on my way.

I sulked round to the finish very pissed off recording a time of 4:01 plus god knows how long for the punctures, not before taking a final beating by the elements over sheep house in reverse.

It was stupid going out today, absolutely ridiculous really….

But what am I meant to do?

I’m addicted…..

All I want is to be able to ‘renew my stripes’ on the new ‘brutal’ bike circuit at IMUK…

However make no mistake about this, If the weather is half as bad on race day as it was today, then I’m absolutely fucked…
