Rookie goes for 5 in a row at Ironman UK week 8/26
Areet…
What I love about training is the massive progress you make without really even realising it….
Case in point, i’ve been cycling to and from work since pretty much mid December.
It’s only 13 miles each way…..
When I first rode that route, it took me over an hour….
On Sunday, I went and banged it out in under 45 minutes….
Now most Ironmen would probably still scoff at this, but to me it’s a big deal…..
What do I put this down to?
FTP?…..
Nah….
VO2 Max….
Nah…..
Spending the right amount of time in zones 1,2,3,4?
Nah…..
Ramp Test?
Nah……
Increasing Lactacte threshold?
Nope…..
What then?……
3 Simple things…
a) Practicing the route virtually every single day for nearly 8 weeks
b) Losing nearly a stone of lard…..
c) Favourable weather conditions….
As you train, be sure to celebrate your mini victories along the way….
And don’t think you need to make it far more complicated than it needs to be in order to achieve results……
Here is how training went this week….
Monday….Off
Tuesday…..26 mile bike to and from work
Wednesday….26 mile bike to and from work
Thursday…..26 mile bike to and from wotk
Friday……26 mile bike to and from work
Saturday……26 mile bike trialing a new route
Sunday…..10k run
