IMUK 2020

Rookie goes for 4 in a row @ Ironman UK Week 13 of 20

As always, thoughts and prayers to all those with the virus and their families.

In addition, thanks to all the front line public sector staff, wagon drivers and shelf stackers, without whom we would all be fooked.

I’ve got to be honest, I feel like i’m living in some sort of parallel universe right now…

Like everyone else, I sit and watch the terrible images on the news every day and my heart goes out to every single one of the poor souls on there….

I’ve got to the point where I’m actually feeling guilty for wanting to get out there and train…

That said, locked in the house for hours on end, many of us are selfishly craving our daily ‘fix’ of exercise now more than ever….

Itching to get out there and train we are….

Itching….

Let’s have it right though, bouncing out there fresh as a daisy with all yer Ironman gear on feels a bit ‘out of order’ in the current climate don’t you think?…

However, the government have said we are ‘allowed’ to leave the house to do one piece of exercise per day, either a walk, run or cycle so long as we stay local, do it alone and ‘keep well away from others’….

In fact, they seem to be actively encouraging it…

As trainee Ironmen, we hardly need any encouragement do we?

So for now at least, it’s on with the show (thanks be to the lord)….

One thing ‘staying local’ has brought to light is that there is a massive difference between a ‘normal’ 31 mile race circuit and a 31 mile lap of the Ironman UK race circuit…

Case in point, this week I went and did 3 and a bit laps of my local 10 mile TT bike course (31 mile) and compared that to my recent time for one lap of the 31 mile IMUK bike circuit…

The result?

31 miles on me local TT course = 1:44

1 lap of the 31 mile IMUK bike circuit = 2:34

Nearly an hour difference….

Bastards ain’t they?

We love em though…..

Will the sacred race go ahead in July?….

I think the entire country hopes that a jab is found and it’s ‘business as usual’ come July…

In the meantime, we continue to make the most of our daily allowance, count our blessings and pray for all those struck down…
