Rookie goes for 3 in a row at IMUK Week 14 of 40
Areet?
Happy New Year and all that….
For many first timers, January 1st marks the beginning of their training plan for IMUK.
For me, it marks finding out the negative effect ‘December Debauchery’ has had on my fitness.
You see, having made good progress working hard on the IMUK bike loop towards the rear end of the year, I gave myself pretty much the whole of December ‘off’ and this meant I was free to do whatever I wanted.
As you can imagine, I took full advantage of ‘Christmas’ on an almost daily basis throughout December…(rolls eyes, shakes head)…
So this week, I found myself asking the following questions….
What effect has December Debauchery had on my weight?
Answer…. I’m now 14/9 which is a good two stone heavier than I was first time out at IMUK……Pathetic
What effect has December Debauchery had on my 10k run time?
1:02 versus a regular average for the same route of around 56 minutes….pathetic
What effect has December Debauchery had on my 10 mile bike TT time?
32:10 versus a regular average of sub 30….pathetic
What effect has December Debauchery had on my pool mile?
38 minutes which remains unchanged…Surprising, however lets have it right, a ‘steady’ pool mile is a piece of piss
And the most important one of the lot….What effect has December Debauchery had on my IMUK bike loop time?
We’ll find that one out later today.
Am I pissed off with myself?
Erm….I’ll answer that one when I am sat at the bottom of Babylon lane having finished me loop later…
But no regrets and all that.
To be fair, the new year couldn’t come quick enough for me – I’ve had more than my fill of debauchery these last few weeks and it feels great to be ‘back in the game.’
Here is how my training went this week:
Saturday : Wasn’t in the mood for anything else so went and knocked out a pool mile….if u have gathered a few cobwebs over Xmas Try a nice steady pool mile – you’ll feel a million dollars afterwards
Sunday : Sunday 10k ish….1:02….Took it nice and gentle…Considering this was my first run for 6 weeks and taking into account the debauchery of xmas, I was surprised how generally ‘OK’ this ‘run’ felt – I was certainly expecting it to be far worse than what it was….That said, my stranglehold on ‘sub hour’ for this route that I have held for so long has sadly fallen….. Re-conquering this becomes the target for Jan
Monday (NYE) : Pool Mile 38:31…Had to go earlier than planned as David Lloyd closes at 4:30 today which agitated me…The message I get here is ‘Do one fitness fans we are all going on the piss’……..Well if they are….
Tuesday : Went the gym on new years day for the first time in 40 years for a weights sesssion! 💪💪….Not gonna lie – it hurt!
Wednesday : 10 Mile Bike TT – If you want to discover the effects of ‘December Debauchery’ on your fitness – go and do a Ten Mile Bike TT – 32:10…..Pathetic
Thursday : Forced day of rest due to ‘man flu’ which was no doubt brought on yesterday when I went and did a 10 mile TT in a slightly damp tri suit with the temperature at minus….It looked such a lovely day through the window…
Friday : Weights sesh in the gym all important protein shake in sauna to finish
I’ll let you know how the IMUK loop went next week.
To your amazing journey!
